Marla Ann Dorf nee Palmer passed away peacefully surrounded by family Saturday, September 11, 2021, after a long battle with cancer, she was 70 years old. Marla is survived by her husband of 37 years Steve, her son Sammy (Fiance Hannah Tyrrell) Dorf, daughter Jaclyn (Scott) Axonovitz , two grandchildren Cooper and Sloane Axonovitz and her sister Monica (Jeff) Biegel. It wouldn't be right to say that Marla lost a battle to cancer, because she never stopped fighting. No matter the day, the diagnosis…her spirit never wavered. She was the definition of strength and resilience; there was no quit in Marla. Everyone that knows Marla knows that she was the most giving, positive, and selfless person around.? Marla lived her life for others & devoted her love to her family.? From her home in Deerfield, IL where her and her husband Steve raised two beautiful children. To the shores of Lake Michigan where Marla and Steve built their "heaven on earth" in Michiana, Michigan, "Happy Marla" was the queen of this "country" town.? A Saturday morning walk down the lake road was filled with conversations with life long friends.? "Happy Marla" loved nothing more than engraining her two grandchildren into the Michiana community. In the kitchen Marla came to life.? From her pizza, to rice casserole &? her famous sausage & peppers, all her special dishes were known to anyone who was lucky enough to grace her kitchen.? But don't let the sauce stains on the apron fool you.? Always dressed to the nines with her hair, nails, and makeup done impeccably, Marla was a lady through and through. Service Tuesday 1PM at Chicago Jewish Funerals, 8851 Skokie Blvd. (at Niles Center Road) Skokie. Interment Westlawn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Keshet, 610 Academy Drive, Northbrook, Illinois 60062 https://www.keshet.org/ To attend the funeral live stream, please visit our website. "Happy Marla" She shared her smile and energy with everyone. Our Children and our Grand Children always refer to her as "Happy Marla". After every Fourth of July Parade in Michiana they could not wait until it was over to go to Marla's House to get all the goodies she had for everyone in the village . Truly a remarkable lady that will never be forgotten. Irwin & Sharon

So sorry to hear about Marla. I worked for many years at the junior high in Deerfield where Marla subbed often. Her exuberance, kindness, and cooking abilities were legendary at Caruso and everyone loved her. May she Rest In Peace!

Steve and your lovely family - Jack and I send you our deepest condolence for such an angel to be taken from us. She was one of the warmest, most welcoming from the Michiana crew 27 years ago when I first met you both. She had laughs and smiles for everyone and loved her friends and family. I enjoyed her tremendously and send you much love.

Steve and family, I'm so sorry to hear about Marla's passing. She was indeed a strong spirit. It's only been 2 years since the last NNHS reunion. Narla looked great and had the same strong spirit then. Technically, Marla was my 1st girlfriend though it doesn't mean an awful lot in the 4th grade. Marla was my date, however, to see the Beatles in concert at the Chicago Stadium in September 1964 from the 5th row, center aisle. Steve, my heart goes out to you and your fanily. I'll be watching online, today.

I met Marla in the cheese section of Safeway in Scottsdale. We only spoke for a short while, but I knew she was my friend. We exchanged numbers, but sadly never got together. I´m so saddened by her loss & the fact that I never got to know her better. Hearing all the wonderful things that are being said about her really doesn´t surprise me. I felt her warmth the moment we met. May she Rest In Peace.

"Venus rising" That's what we always called her after she walked through the water from the boat with a tray of homemade Italian ice for the stop 40 beach crowd. She was a unique spirit. Our heartfelt condolances.

Marla's presence lives on in the lives of others, which is the whole point of our time here. As someone once said, rather than mourn the absence of a flame - Let us celebrate how brightly it burned.
