Jasper, Mary Esther Tucker
Mary Esther Tucker Jasper, 97, Indianapolis, died August 4, 2008. She was preceded in death in 2001 by her husband, Judge Paul George Jasper, a
former Indiana Supreme Court Judge and the first federal judge nominee
under President Harry S Truman.
Mrs. Jasper was born in Salem, Indiana December 29, 1910. Her father, Judge James Lindley Tucker, was a Circuit Court Judge for over 12 years in
Washington and Orange Counties. Her mother,
Myrtle Esther Mitchell Tucker was the oldest living alumnus of Indiana University and the first female high school principal in Indiana.
A fourth-generation graduate of Indiana University, Mrs. Jasper was also an active member of Meridian Street United Methodist Church. She was active all her life in several service organizations including Kappa Kappa Gamma for 80 years, Alpha Mu Latirian, People of Vision, Colonial Dame 17th
Century Genealogical Society and a 75 year member of the Carolyn Scott Harrison chapter of the
Daughters of the American Revolution. Her hobbies were gardening and playing her heirloom piano.
Mrs. Jasper was a significant supporter of the
President Benjamin Harrison Home in Indianapolis and is the namesake of the Mary Tucker Jasper Speaker Series at the Home.
She was a loving wife and mother. She is survived by her son, Paul Tucker Jasper (Susan) of Lake Forest, IL, and daughter Mary Jamia Jacobsen (Dr. M.K. Jacobsen), Zionsville, as well as 8
grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, August 7 at Flanner & Buchanan Funeral Center-Broad Ripple. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
Contributions may be made to the Mary Esther Tucker Jasper Speakers' Series at the President Benjamin Harrison Home, 1230 N. Delaware St.,
Indianapolis, 46202.
