Maryjane Mentzinger, age 81, a resident of Lake Forest for 40 years, passed away on September 19, 2013. She was born in Philadelphia on April 9, 1932 the oldest of three daughters of Ralph and Jean Hansberry.She graduated from Germantown High School and attended the College of Wooster. Maryjane met her husband Dick when she was 11 years old. Their families were close friends who loved dinnertime conversations about politics and current events, though not always sharing the same political convictions. Maryjane married Dick on October 11, 1952. During the next 20 years they lived in several cities before settling in Lake Forest. Maryjane made every new place a home for her family and built lasting relationships with new friends. In every town she was active in the PTA, community organizations, and with her local church. In Lake Forest, Maryjane was a long-time volunteer with the League of Women Voters and the Chancel Guild at First Presbyterian Church. She was instrumental in establishing the church's Memorial Garden. Maryjane loved traveling around the US and the world with Dick and her many friends. Maryjane was a gracious and kind person who took a deep interest in the lives of those around her. She was loved and will be missed by many. She is survived by her husband Dick, son Richard (Elizabeth) Mentzinger of Swarthmore, PA, daughter Lynn (Gailen) Hull of Winnetka, IL and daughter Jane Mentzinger of Evanston, IL and grandchildren Kate, Anne and Jane Mentzinger, Christopher (Megan), Andrew and Emily Hull and Tomas Mentzinger. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 30 at First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, 700 North Sheridan Road, Lake Forest, IL 60045 Info - Wenban Funeral Home, Lake Forest, 847-234-0022.
