Memories and Condolences
for Maurie Berman

Not sure what to say?

So sad maurie has passed. Superdawg is such a wonderful memory. The house I grew up in was down the block from Milwaukee and Raven so this was simply our favorite neighborhood joint! Who knew this would become world famous? My heartfelt sympathy to the family.

Our Condolences from the Perez Family. When my father was a young 21 year old looking for a job, he had his interview with Maurie, and Maurie gave him a chance. Almost 20 years later, he is still working at SuperDawg. My father has always told me that he has always seen his boss as a "second father." Maurie was a boss that was always concerned and always took care of his employees; he was a unique and very exceptional boss. Maurie and Flo have always been extremely important to not just my father, but also to the rest of my family. I remember doing my history project on SuperDawg my freshmen year of high school. SuperDawg has never hesitated to donate food and gift cards to my school fundraisers. My brother wrote an essay on how big SuperDawg has impacted his life and has helped him transition from the teenage stage of life, onto the "adult" life.

There are no words to explain our sadness and shock. He will truly be in our hearts, always. May he rest in peace.

Lolo's daughter, Kimberly Perez

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on Maurie's death. I'll never forget the summer of 1959 when as a favor to Abe Miska (my Dad managed one of stores) he hired me. My first job was to cut potatoes for the 4th weekend , for Superdawg and Beefy. It nearly killed me and I was in good shape. It was probably one of the happiest jobs I had and definitely the one that gave me a lot of street creds. I'll never forget Superdawg and Maurie (and you too Flaurie).

Super dang means a lot to our family. Growing up in Chicago, it was a regular stop. As our children were born and grew, the tradition continued.
Even to the point of making a stop at Superdawg on the way home from airport pickups returning from college, and then taking our granddaughter
As soon as she could ear fries!
I also had the pleasure of doing some business with the Berman family, and fully enjoyed getting to meet the Bermans and the Druckers.
Our thoughts are with you.

I remember teaching Maurie and Flo how to use their computer several years ago at Mush's request. I was impressed with the cute couple they made . . both such wonderful and caring people. At each session, Maurie insisted that I stop on my way home to get a superdawg until I finally did one day. I think of the experience often and what a generous and endearing person Maurie was.

I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. My heart goes out to the family he leaves behind. If he could make such an impact on a total stranger, may the many wonderful memories of his life ease the burden of their pain.

I had the pleasure of first meeting Maurie in 1981 while making a sales call though I had gone to Superdawg for years before that. He was by far one of the nicest and most cordial individuals I ever had the honor of calling on. He always made me feel welcome and that is sometimes not a very easy thing to do with "sales people!" The world needs more Mauries! It has been years since I last saw him, but I will remember Maurie with fondness. My condolences to Maurie's family and friends.

Mrs. Berman, Lisa, Mush, and Scott,

Even though I haven't stayed in contact with you over the years, your family has been a part of my family's life for a long time. I went to Volta and Roosevelt with Mush; my brother went to Volta with Lisa; Scott let some lonely freshman girls sit at the lunchroom table with his senior friends; I even baby sat for Lisa once in a while; and my Uncle Aubrey was a cousin to Mr. Berman. Mr. Berman was always a part of my life through you. I know he will be missed, but I am sure that he was proud of the legacy that you will carry on in his name. My prayers and condolences to the family from my entire family.
