Michael Calcagno Obituary

Michael Alan Calcagno, 60, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on December 16, 2021. Michael attended Taft High School in Chicago and graduated from University of Illinois in Chicago with a business degree. He lived for many years in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago. Michael spent most of his working life in the hospitality industry. For thirty years, he worked at the Four Seasons Hotel, first as laundry manager and then for 26 years in the banquet department. Michael's personality was truly suited to the hospitality industry. He was out-going, warm-hearted and well attuned to meeting the needs of others. He had a remarkable capacity for remembering faces and names. He was charming, gracious, and well-mannered. And he was extremely hard-working. He leaves behind his husband, Paul Mittleman, with whom he had been in a relationship for the past 22 years, a sister Claire (Robert), a brother Craig (Jennifer) and nephews Kyle and Colin. Memorial service followed by inurnment of remains, Monday, January 3, 2pm, Rosehill Cemetery, May Chapel, 5800 N. Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, IL 60660. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Care for Real, https://careforreal.org/. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Illinois, 773-281-5058 or www.cremation-society.com.

I worked for several years with Michael early in both of our careers with Four Seasons. His willingness to roll up his sleeves and get to work was beautifully balanced by his ability to see the silliness in the serious at the same time. I'm glad I go to know him in that time.
