Born on April 19,1926 in Selo Obljaj, Grahovo in the former Yugoslavia, reposed on February 25, 2013 in Chicago. Beloved husband of the late Anastasia Ceko; loving father of George (Roxanne) Ceko, Mile Jr. (Beverly) Ceko, John "Jovo" Ceko, Very Rev. Nikola (Sandra) Ceko, and Daniel "Dusan"(Mary) Ceko; fond grandfather of Mile III "Mike"(Lucy) Ceko, Joanne (Anthony) Strezo, Diane (Atoa) Hmad, Timothy (Jennifer) Ceko, Daniel (Wendy) Ceko, Catherine "Cat" Ceko, Andreana Ceko, and Maria Ceko. Also survived by eleven great-grandchildren, brother, Djuro, sister, Milka and many devoted nieces, nephews, and kumovi in North America and Europe. Preceded in death by his parents, Jovo and Joka Ceko; his brothers, Savo and Dr. Nikola; and his sister, Slavojka. Mile was a proud WWII veteran serving with the Serbian Chetniks in the former Yugoslavia and member of the Movement of Serbian Chetniks Corps Regiment "Gavrilo Princip." After the war, Mile emigrated to the United States and began working for Republic Steel. Married for 60 years, Mile and Anastasia generously and faithfully served the Serbian Orthodox Church, their beloved children and family, as well as the greater community. For many years, he helped countless other Serbian immigrants assimilate to life in the United States. Mile was an active member of the St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox parish since 1950, and at the consecration of the new Saint Archangel Michael Church in Lansing, Illinois, he was honored as "kum" (sponsor). He is the recipient of several Episcopal Gramatas of Recognition for his lifelong service to the Serbian Orthodox Church, including in the ministries of the Altar and Chanting.. Funeral Services will be held at St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church in Lansing, Illinois on Monday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m. Will lie in state from 9:30 am until time of service with Very Rev. Dr. Milos Vesin officiating. Interment St. Sava Cemetery, Libertyville, IL. Visitation at Elmwood Chapel, 11200 S. Ewing Ave., Chicago on Sunday, March 3 from 4 to 9 p.m. with a Pomen Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church are preferred.
