My sympathies to the family of Judge Shadur. As a court reporter who on occasion worked before him, I was impressed with the respect and kindness he showed to everyone who stepped before his bench. He demonstrated wisdom and knowledge worthy of emulation. I consider myself fortunate to have become acquainted with him.

When I was in law school in the early '90's, I had the privilege and the honor to serve as an extern for Judge Shadur. I witnessed, first hand and "behind the scenes" in chambers his passion for justice and his tireless work ethic. He truly cared about every case that went before him and read every piece of paper handed to him and every case law cited (and often went way beyond). He also cared about me, and making sure I was learning how to be a better writer and how to be a good lawyer. He served on the bench with dignity and wisdom. I can't imagine there has been anyone like him, yet we should all strive to be. My condolences to his loved ones and family. May his memory be for a blessing.

As the former Assistant Director at CCDOC, Judge Shadur presided over a "conditions of confinement" case brought against the jail. Although not a defendant in the case, upon my appearances before the judge I could always count on a fair hearing on the various issues. It is with my greatest respect, I offer my condolences.

I tried a Title VII case before Judge Shadur 20 years ago; he was brilliant and fair and taught me a great deal. It was an occasional surprise and delight to climb up to the upper level of the homebound North Line and find myself seated next to the Judge. We would make small talk for awhile, then he would go back to revising draft opinions with his red pen for the entire ride. My deepest condolences to Judge Shadur's family, and thank you for sharing this wonderful man with the rest of us.

My condolences. I admired and respected Milt and treasured our relationship. We first met in the 70's when our firms officed next door to one another at 208 S. LaSalle and remained in touch ever since. Even when he sat on the bench, I called him from time to time to stay in touch and whenever I had an ethical issue and wanted his sage advice, which he graciously provided Milt was a legal scholar and larger than life.
