Nancy Amicangelo Obituary

Nancy Amicangelo passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 7, after a decades-long battle with breast cancer.

She enjoyed a career of over 40 years in banking and finance, starting in her home town of Boston, then on Wall Street, and finally in Chicago. But her real passion was giving back; she was deeply involved in the breast cancer cause, and in supporting at-risk children. She began volunteering in 1993 at the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization. For the past 13 years she worked/volunteered at A Silver Lining Foundation, which provides cost free breast health testing to uninsured and under insured women and men. For many years she has also been a member of The Leader Council of Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.

Born in Boston, Nancy had lived in Chicago since 1990, where she is survived by her long-time partner, Robin Koskinen. Nancy is also survived by her mother, Mary; her siblings Janet & Tom Sheerin; Debby Weir; Steven & Beth Amicangelo; Paul & Maureen Amicangelo; John & Sheryl Amicangelo; and Joseph Amicangelo. Nancy felt like the luckiest person in the world for having 12 amazing nieces and nephews, 18 grand nieces and nephews and 4 grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held in Boston at a date to be announced. There will be a Memorial Mass at the Assumption Church at 323 West Illinois Street, Chicago, also at a date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be very much appreciated to either A Silver Lining Foundation, 134 N. LaSalle St., #2050, Chicago, IL 60602 (or online at: asilverliningfoundation.org) or to Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, 1140 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607 (or on line at: mercyhome.org)

Nancy was the board president for a condo in Chicago years ago and she was instrumental in hiring me as their property manager. Nancy was the best friend and best board president I ever worked with. She is surely missed by everyone.

Breast cancer brought Nancy and I together. We met at Y-Me of Illinois and served together as members of the board of directors. Nancy was an accomplished professional and exceptionally generous person. She worked harder than anyone as a breast cancer volunteer and through this work, she impacted many lives. Her generous spirit now lives in our hearts and memories. Love you always, dearest Nancy.

My phone broke and I didn't have her number written down. I was reaching out to check in on her like I've done over the year but this time I knew something was different. I've none Nancy for 30 years of my life I never got the chance to really let her no that she made me who I am today. She was my mentor my tutor and my friend. We had coffee together a couple years ago and laughed and talked about what we both had made it through. I was so looking forward to seeing her again. My heart is really heavy. I'm want to send my condolences to her entire family for she will me missed.

I am so sorry to read about Nancy's passing. I remember Nancy from our Roslindale High School years. Her quick smile, her kind manner and gentle warmth. Nancy brightened up a room upon her entrance. My condolences to all.

I am so sorry to hear of Nancy's passing, though I am glad that it was peaceful. Nancy and I were colleagues at JPMorgan (First Chicago and then Bank One), and I always found her to be a warm, kind person and a consummate professional. I loved hearing her Boston accent in Chicago, where such accents are rare; I spent a portion of my childhood in Massachusetts. May Nancy rest in peace, and may her partner and her extended family find comfort in the many positive memories of time spent with her.
