He was the finest teacher I ever had, an absolute Olympian of history story telling!

Professor Diebel was one of the two best history teachers I have had, and I was a history major. Every day, he brought history to life. With one foot on a chair and his hand stroking his beard, he spun a yarn about history as if he were witness. He was awesome, the most thoroughly entertaining history teacher I had. He made an impression on my life, and I hope his children know how special he was.

On behalf or the faculty and staff of Moraine Valley Community College, we extend our sincere condolences to the family of our beloved, retired colleague Nelson. Nelson was an original faculty member with the college and helped to build the college into a nationally recognized community college. His love and support for his students was known widely, and he contributed to their successes in many ways. He leaves a proud legacy. I personally was privileged to have Nelson as my colleague and friend.
