Patricia Howe

1926 - 2016

Indian Wells, CA longtime resident Patricia M. Howe passed away peacefully April 13, 2016 with her loved ones by her side. She was born in Chicago on September 14, 1926 to Harry M. and Helen M. Howe. Patricia attended St. Mary's Academy, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and Barat College, Lake Forest, Illinois. Patricia is survived by her sister Helen H. Smith, four nieces, one nephew, four great nieces, and three great nephews, and many loving cousins. In addition, she is survived by Monica Lucas, her beloved caregiver, dear, and interesting friends from all over the world. Patricia is happy now to be rejoined with her beloved Jack Russell, Bogey. Her outstanding career in finance made her a pioneer for women in the marketplace. She started her career in the Municipal Bond Department at Blythe & Co. (San Francisco '54-'55), then to L.F. Rothschild & Co. (Chicago '57-'65). Covering the West Coast, she became their top producer. Rothschild sent her to San Francisco to open and manage their west coast office ('65-'82). In San Francisco ('68), she became the first woman partner of a major New York Stock Exchange firm. In 1976, Patricia was named one of 100 top corporate women in the United States by Business Week Magazine. In 1984, she co-founded TIS Financial Services, Inc. Patricia was a member of the San Francisco Opera Guild, Lady Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, and was a corporate board member of Lear Siegler Services, Inc. University of San Diego honored her as the longest contributing member of the Board of Trustees 1972-2010 and San Diego College for Women 1969-1972. Patricia leaves a legacy of love, respect, loyalty, integrity, grace, and compassion. She loved to host parties for the 4th of July on her balcony overlooking the San Francisco Bay, Easter, and Christmas celebrations. To celebrate Patricia's life and legacy, a visitation will be held Wednesday April 20, 2016 at 10:15 at Sacred Heart Church in Palm Desert with a funeral mass to follow at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to: University of San Diego, CA Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund or Xavier College Preparatory High School, Palm Desert, CA Scholarship Fund.
