I first met Aleks in Germany on a cruise down the Neckar River in Heidelberg. Aware of his heritage I held up my beer stein and said “Sveiks!” He smiled and countered with a barrage of Lithuanian words I didn’t understand. We found common roots in having both lived in Chicago and shared a great appreciation of Lithuanian cuisine. He was one of those persons you meet and never forget. He enjoyed life to the fullest and was the epitome of a fine Army officer. My sincere condolences to his family.
