Robert Callanan

Robert James Callanan, age 83 of Schaumburg. Beloved husband of Barbara Schwetz-Callanan, nee Drisch. Previously married to Saralu Garland. Loving father of John F (Shana), Carol L (Gregory) Callanan-Uhl, James D (Elke), Catherine L (Juan Jose) Rivera and step father of Rhonda L (Greg) Loyd. Cherished grandfather of 12 and great grandfather of 5. Robert was president of the Callanan Company, before retiring to the dark skies of Saddlebrook in Tucson, AZ and returning to IL. He attended University of Chicago earning his PhB in Mathematics and Physics at 18 years, and MBA in 1956. An amateur astronomer who assembled telescopes, visited observatories, and chased astronomical events, he enjoyed sharing his passion at public functions, educational sessions and in his own back yard. He delighted in classical music, opera, musicals, photography and art. He was a member of International Dark-Sky Association (IDA), Tucson Amateur Astronomer Association (TAAA), N.W.A., Vatican Observatory Foundation and Friendship Force International. Memorial gathering 1-4 PM, 2PM service, Saturday, March 29 at Friendship Village Assembly Hall, 350 W Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg.
