Robert A. Chalupnik, age 50, of Chicago. Beloved life partner of Kent Jager; Cherished son of Valerie and the late Stephen Chalupnik Jr.; Brother of Laura (Tom) Eix, David (Melanie) Chalupnik, and Stephen (Cynthia Van Bogaert) Chalupnik; admired uncle of Dallen, Nicole, Michelle and Jennifer; Fond cousin and dear friend of many, including his Family at Columbia Threadneedle Investments. Rob was one of the most kind and gentle souls I've met. He was a calm, happy presence everywhere he went and was loved by many. He truly lived the life he was given and fit more in 50 years than most people do in many more. I'm so glad I knew him - even for the short time we were in each other's lives. Rest in peace, Robert.

I just learned yesterday of Rob's illness and worry that there must be many others like me who will find out too late. Rob was always so full of life, whether biking, bowling, boating, scuba diving, playing euchre, socializing with friends, laughing, and caring; his passing is beyond belief; it's so incongruent with everything about him that it makes no sense. I'm overwhelmed at how I took for granted that he would always be there, like he always was, and that I would repeatedly plan weekend trips to Chicago because "I've got to get there to see Rob," but something would come up. Now Chicago will never be the same.
Rob was simply the nicest person I've ever met. Period. I've met a lot of nice people as a psychiatrist, but Rob was the nicest. There just is no other way I can put it. He was the kind of person that you were sad if he had a bad day, because he didn't deserve it. Or that he had the flu because it would spoil his fun. This is something that is inconceivable to happen.
Everyone who knew Rob must miss him dearly. Everyone who didn't know him, missed out on a beautiful life. Thank you for being my friend and so good to me, Rob. I love you.

Rob, you've been a great investor with us and became a true friend in a business that doesn't usually lend itself to becoming friends. I will miss speaking with you about a wide variety of topics from the economy to leisure activities (skiing, cycling and tasty beers) to the Cubs, Bears and Packers. And many others that came up during our "work" conversations. Your calm and interested approach was valued by our team at Oshkosh and we will truly miss you. We send our thoughts and prayers to your loved ones.
