Robert Heineman Obituary

Robert J. "Bob" Heineman, age 77, of Skokie, died at home on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. He is survived by his beloved family: wife, Eileen Hogan Heineman; son, David (Maryjoy), and daughter, Molly (Sean) MacCready; and the five grandchildren who thrilled him to no end: Theo, Joseph, Ansel, Maya, and Ronan. He was preceded in death by his parents, George A. and Eileen C., née Heffernan, Heineman; brother, John L., and sister, Margo Daniels. He will be missed by his siblings and the "outlaws": Helen Heineman, Pera Daniels, George (the late Marge), Charlie (Joyce), Ellen (the late Larry) Colemire, and Teesie (Paul Eck) Heineman. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and a host of friends. Born in Connersville, IN, Bob was a graduate of Notre Dame's Program of Liberal Studies, and never stopped learning. His varied careers included college professor, union organizer, consumer advocate, and church reformer. He danced through life, was a champion of the underdog, and loved to read and travel widely, often taking the scenic route. He valued and built community everywhere he went, whether coaching soccer or selling Christmas trees, but his most valued community was always his family. Visitation, Sunday, December 17, 2023, from 4 to 8 p.m., at St Nicholas Church of St. John XXIII Catholic Parish, 806 Ridge Ave., Evanston. Funeral Mass, Monday, December 18, at 10 a.m., also at St. Nicholas Church, Evanston. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Child Restoration Outreach Support Organization (CROSO), 1653 S. Blue Island Ave., Suite 207, Chicago, IL, 60608 (croso.org) or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY, 10163 (michaeljfox.org). Both causes were near to Bob's heart. Info: 847.673.6111 or habenfuneral.com to sign guestbook and to leave a condolence message.

Bob was one of my most admired friends. I will always be grateful to him. I would like to contact Eileen Heineman, Bob´s wife. Can you give me her email address?
Thank you,
Ellen McNally

Bob Heineman was the reason I joined and supported CTA! What a devoted and passionate man for social justice issues! He was a real people person and was most attentive when talking to each person.
Another person might have slowed down or retired with Parkinson´s ... but not Bob!
May you rest in peace and rise in glory, Bob!

As chapter leader of SW Florida I was blessed to have many visits and experiences with Bob. He loved winter in Florida so would accept any invitation to speak here, and always found time to spend extra time visiting other CTAers in the area and speak whenever asked. He would take our second car and enjoy friends and weather. When he retired we told him he was welcome any time and the day after he retired he came and stayed six weeks. He certainly made Jack and me better people and CTA a better organiztion! And a special joy was when he and Eileen visited us a couple of months before he died.
