Robert Retel Obituary

Robert E. Retel, age 83, of Wheaton. Served on the aircraft carrier USS Midway while in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954. Beloved husband of the late Carol V., nee Roepke. Loving father of Eileen, Paul (Christine), Bruce, Mark (Polly) and the late Wayne Mark. Cherished grandfather of Megan, Tyler, Caroline and Nathaniel Robert. Uncle and great uncle of many. Mr. Retel grew up in Chicago and was a resident of Wheaton for 45 years. He received a bachelors and master's degree from the University of Illinois. Mr. Retel enjoyed a career as a high school teacher, soccer and swimming coach. He was a Member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard for 45 years where he served as an Elder. He was a Member of EAA Chapter 579 Fox Valley Sport Aviation Association. He was a Volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. His hobbies included family, traveling, bicycling, gardening, and reading. Visitation Wednesday 3-8 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St. Lombard. Funeral Service Thursday 9:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran York Center (corner of Roosevelt and Westmore/Meyers Road) Lombard. Interment Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
