Roger Hack Obituary

Roger Hack, born June 5, 1922 in Goodman, WI, died March 12, 2007 of lung disease. He served in the Navy during WWII and afterward graduated from the U. of I. Champaign/Urbana. He retired from Norfolk Southern RR after working there for many years. He was a member of the Community Free Church of Logan Square for over 30 years and led a Teen Hut Ministry for youth there. He served as a counselor at the Pacific Garden Mission for many years. One brother, Lyle, preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, Wilber; and sisters, Delores, Lenore and June. He never married, but his life was filled was love and compassion for many because of his love for Jesus Christ. A Memorial Service will be held at Community Free Church at Logan Square, Sunday, March 18 at 5 p.m., 3551 W. Diversey Ave., Chicago. He will be buried next to his parents in Crandon, WI. I haven't seen Roger in around 60 years. I have thought about him countless times, and fondly. He did try to keep me on the straight and narrow. I remember he had a storefront on Fullerton Ave. where we would hangout and talk about anything and everything. He would even take me a my friends out for sandwiches. We were poor kids and he was the kindest man I have ever met. [email protected]

Im glad i met roger when i was younger i was apart of the youth group ,he was a good guy, i remember going to camp timber lee as a kid , good times

I met Roger for the first time May 1, 1969 when the railroad we worked for brought me to Chicago. It didn't take me long to learn that Roger was a believer and we formed a lasting friendship as brothers in Christ. He told me soon after we met that the most important part of his life started at 5 p.m. after the RR office closed. That's when he hit the streets and worked for the Lord. I have heard many of his jokes numerous times but he always enjoyed sharing them. In the eyes of many of his associates he was "different" but his mission on earth was to please his Savior and after almost 85 years, he is now at his eternal home. We shall miss him but will never forget him. Thanks, Tim, for the web site memories that I have enjoyed and shared with other associates of Roger. To God be the glory!

In the classic Christmas movie It’s a Wonderful Life, there was an eccentric angel named Clarence. Roger chuckled when he was told some children asked me if he was an angel also!

Could it be that they were right? After all, he had no permanent earthly residence………. but had a permanent sparkle in his eye! He helped people to understand the deeper eternal issues of life ………but gave up earthly pleasures for himself! He befriended many people ………..but was determined to be independent even to the end!

Regardless, whether he is an angel or not, ………he’s with the heavenly angels now!

Roger Hack was such an encouragement to me as a young person. I attend Community Free Church of Logan Square in Chicago where he attended and would always remember him with a positive outlook in life despite circumstances. He would always tell me to "Keep Looking Up". He was a very Godly man and I have lots of good memories of him. I was able to pull out some old video of him and posted the link to it off our church web site. There is a link on the home page to the video.

Uncle Roger lived his life according to his belief in Jesus Christ, as his Savior. I say, he lived his life from his heart.

Most people live their lives from their past or future.

Roger was his own person. Not just a person like most of us, but someone who lived and loved the Principle of Jesus Christ.

Roger’s crusade was beyond the family’s understanding, but I can reassure you, that we knew what he believed. His belief was simple,’To accept Jesus Christ as your Savior.

Often, after Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, at my home, I would find pamphlets of Roger’s Christian Belief.

I love Uncle Roger for this, his Belief, his Love for God and Jesus Christ, and the many hearts he touched.

Uncle Roger, was a man who lived his life according to what he believed in. We should all reflect on Roger’s life and ask ourselves, ‘Do I live my life according to God, Jesus Christ, and what can I do for others?’

Uncle Roger, touched the lives of others and his spirit will continue to touch many throughout generations.

My teenage years at the Logan Square Free Church were made more meaningful by Roger's friendship and devotion to young people. He lives on in the lives of all he touched. He will be missed.
