Long before Roz became a lawyer, she was my very tolerant college roommate. Back then, she was certain her life would be about teaching and her passion was the French language. She was a serious and dedicated student, and by her example, I learned how to be a student as well. After all her certainty about teaching, she did it for a while, and was disappointed... not by the students, but by the very intense parents who felt it was the teacher's responsibility to qualify their children for Ivy League schools regardless of the child's ability or performance. So Roz re-evaluated her life and made the switch to law. From what I read, she became a very good lawyer, admired by her peers. I'm not surprised. I saw Roz infrequently in these recent years, and while I knew she was ill, I didn't learn of her death until all these months later. She was one of the best people.

I am so sad to hear that Roz passed away. As many others have expressed, Roz was a terrific lawyer and a friend and mentor to many. Roz was always a ready, willing and great resource to everyone, especially new lawyers. I gained so much from her advice in the early part of my career. She was a special person and will be terribly missed. She and her family are in my prayers.

The legal profession in Illinois has lost a strong but unassuming leader in Roz. In my experience, her life was about delivering the right result in the many circumstances that came her way in her various roles over the years.

Roz combined great skills as an appellate attorney with the utmost in civility and professionalism, as well as a deep sense of public service. She never turned down a request for assistance from another attorney, and was always prompt in her aid. She will be missed, both as a person and a colleague. I am sorry I did not know of her illness. My deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Roz was a superb attorney and professional. I watched her deliver one of the best oral arguments before the Illinois Supreme Court that I have ever seen and have referenced it to many lawyers over the years. Her passing is a great loss to the legal community.

How sad I am to learn of Roz's passing. She was bright, courteous and compassionate in all things. As a lawyer in state service, I learned quickly that I could have no better ally. My sincere condolences to her family and all who loved her. Illinois is the poorer today.

I'm very sorry to hear that we've lost Roz Kaplan. Her family and friends have our deepest sympathy; she will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. She was one of Illinois' finest, hardest working lawyers. More important, she was a kind and gentle soul, and a pleasure to know.
