Russell ("Russ") H. Clark, Jr. of Lake Forest, IL passed away on November 9, 2021. He was born in Chicago, IL on December 29, 1931 to Russell H. and Adelaide (nee Sire) Clark, Sr. The family moved to Highland Park, IL in 1935 and he had a wonderful childhood growing up there. Russ was always active. He was on the swim team and football team in high school, the swim team in college, and remained an avid swimmer his whole life.

He went to Carlton College in Minnesota, where he met the love of his life, Nan Vonier Clark, in 1952, and then to Rochester School of Medicine to complete his medical degree and pathology residency. After two years of active duty in the US Navy, he joined a medical practice in Highland Park and Lake Forest, IL, eventually settling in Lake Forest, raising his family there, and practicing medicine for 34 years. Russ believed strongly in giving back. Over the past 50 years, he was an active member of the Rotary Club and the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest. He was also an active and generous member of the Lake Forest community, volunteering and spearheading many important causes.

Above all, Russ loved catering to his family, Nan, three children and eight granddaughters. Russ cherished family vacations and the annual family and friend's reunion to Door County, Wisconsin. Russ cherished his many lifelong friends, and was always making new ones. He had a gift for making people feel special and welcome. He was always reading and listening to classical music. He enjoyed swimming, anything to do with space, and working with his hands, using his toolbox often and sharing this love with his children.

Russ is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Nan (nee Vonier); his loving children Tom (Grisha) Clark, Kristen (Cary) Fisher, and Steve (Laurie) Clark; and his eight loving granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be sent to First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, Lake Forest Place/Presbyterian Homes, Lake Forest Hospital, or a charity of your choice, in loving memory of Russ. Info: Wenban Funeral Home, Lake Forest (847) 234-0022 or

I met Russ when I joined the Rotary Club in 2012 and he reached out a welcoming hand. Over the years we formed the camaraderie that comes with our frequent club meetings. My condolences to Nan and the family.
