Sam Weddle Obituary

Sam Ella Weddle, 92, of Rockford, departed this life Wednesday, March 14, 2001 in Swedish American Hospital after a short illness. Born Nov. 17, 1908 in Jackson, TN the daughter of Sam and Bobbie Banister. She later married Raymond Weddle in Jackson, TN, in July 1925. She was last employed in housekeeping at St. Anthony Hospital many years before retiring. Member of Pilgrim Baptist Church, where she served as a Good Samaritan and on the Mothers Board. She attended Jackson schools. She leaves to cherish many loving memories, four daughters, Cora (Ramus) Bates, Etta (Lynwood) Webb, Doris (Thomas) Cravens and Dorothy (Jesse) Patterson all of Rockford, two sons, Raymond Jr. (Louise) Weddle of California and Thomas ''TL'' Weddle of Rockford; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; one niece Peggy (Ron) Stephens, two nephews, Joe (Ruby) Hill and Lonell Perry; a host of other relatives and friends; predeceased by her husband, parents, three children, Carrie and George Lee Weddle and Linda June Brown. Service were held Tuesday, March 20, 2001, 1 p.m. at Pilgrim Baptist Church, with the Pastor Steve Bland, officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, 2429 W. State St., Rockford, IL.
