Shawn Fitzgerald Quaid, of Chicago, age 54, died July 2, 2021 of alcoholism. A North Shore native, Shawn graduated from New Trier high school '84, attended Northwestern University '84-88, and received his Culinary Arts degree in '02 from the Cooking and Hospitality Institute of Chicago. Shawn was a loving husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend, Chef-de-cuisine, bike mechanic, animal-lover, musician, carpenter, and fixer-of-broken-things. Although the disease of alcoholism stole his health and his life, it couldn't steal Shawn's huge heart, love of people, enthusiasm for nature, athletics, music and his appreciation for the life force that permeates all things.
Shawn is survived by his wife of 12 years, Nora Williams, younger brothers Ted and O'Brien Quaid, elder brothers Francis and Hubert Quaid and a host of extended family, including his spiritual and recovery communities. Shawn has now joined his parents Duke and Mary Quaid, and sister Maureen Quaid on the other side of the veil.
There will be a celebration of Shawn's life on Friday, Aug 27, 2021 at Jefferson Playlot Park, 1709 S DesPlaines St., Chicago, IL at 10am. Please consider making a donation to Star Farm Chicago in Shawn's honor: Bit.ly/3KaDKmg
