Souran Tavitian Obituary

Souran Tavitian passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 4th 2023 at the age of 91. The son of survivors of the Armenian Genocide, Souran was born in Chicago in 1932 to Vahan & Mary Tavitian. He met the love of his life, Dorothe Hopper at Wright Junior College in Chicago. They married in June of 1956, & enjoyed 46 years of marriage. Souran joined his father in the jewelry business & became an expert diamond setter. He was a jeweler for almost 70 years, first in the Loop on Jewelers Row and later in Berwyn where he had many close friendships. While he enjoyed his work the light of his life was his family. He also enjoyed bird watching, grilling shish kabob in his backyard, reading about history, & vacations with his family to Cape Cod & Martha's Vineyard. Souran was predeceased by his parents, wife Dorothe, & sisters Marion, Charlotte, & Novart. He is survived by his sister May (John), his children David (Kathy), Jennifer, & John, & grandchildren Adam (Sunshine), Scott (Stefany), & Daniel, & many loved nieces & nephews. Souran spent the last few years living in Lexington, KY where he was lovingly cared for by Jennifer & John. Souran was a kind & remarkable human being & he will be dearly missed.
