I can hardly believe it's been 5 years since Steve's untimely passing. I know the hurt never really goes away; it will always be a part of our lives for his family and those who knew him. Bless you, LaVerne, Dan, and Greg, and may memories of happier times sustain us all.

I just heard of Steve's passing. So sad. I had not seen Steve in the longest time and we recently became facebook friends. I had thought it would be nice to see each other again. He was my very first boyfriend. Used to wait on the curb for the cute guy to drive his olive green car by my house. My heart is heavy. My prayers to his family.
RIP Steve.

I am so sorry to learn of Steve's passing. My deepest condolences. I became friends with Steve a few years ago as we would share stories of Horse Racing, Football, and other assorted topics at Chuck's in Fontana. He was someone you liked being around all the time. He will be missed and may he rest in piece. JIM LAPETINA

My condolences to Steve's family. I got to know him when I worked at the dog track in Delavan where he was a regular patron. Since they closed, I've visited with Steve at Nicolino's and at Abbey springs where I work now. He was a very likeable man and always had a smile on his face. Larry Psonak.

Dell, we always had a blast together. You knew you could needle me and I could give it back and we could toast a drink after and try to pick a winner. I'm just disappointed we didn't get more time to hang out. You will be missed buddy!

I'm so sorry for your loss- he is being mourned all over the country, because he touched the lives of so many of his fellow racing fans. I will really miss him.
(I apologize if this is a double post- I thought I had posted yesterday, but as I don't see the post, either I did it wrong or Steve is pranking me from the other side. Which wouldn't surprise me a bit!)

The internet is responsible for a lot of things. One of which is getting to know people miles away. I've spent the last eight years as a friend of Steve's yet never met him in person. Still, I knew him better than my neighbor. What an outstanding person my friend Steve was!

we are sorry for your loss
we met Steve through Derby Trail and Dee Tee Stables. Steve was a big part of the original DT crew.
He was excited to share his home track with us on our first trip to Arlington. We enjoyed our time with him at all the DT races.

My condolences to everyone that knew Steve. I had the pleasure of being able to be around him, not only at the track but also online at DerbyTrail and from various handicapping contests that we played over the years. Steve was always a top-notch guy and was great to be around as he'd always be able to get you to laugh. He will be sorely missed.

I know that nothing can lessen the sorrow but had to just say that I am profoundly sorry for your tragic loss.

I know that Steve had many great and lifelong friends... I, however, only knew him online and not too well. . An unexpected part of such meetings is that you can tell who radiates joy in their lives when it, occasionally, comes through the screen with the rarest of people.

Steve was one of those people.

I appreciated his warmth, respected his honesty, found him to be extremely well spoken, well-educated and well-mannered. He enjoyed sharing little pieces of his experiences and his opinions on a multitude of subjects and continually did so with humor and with wit.

While it is of little or no comfort I do hope that all of you, all of his family members, realize the ripples he sent out there. He was engaging, intellectual, fun and funny and he will be missed by an unimaginable number of people.

I wish you all strength, comfort and grace especially now... in a time of such anguish and sorrow.

I am truly and painfully sorry for your loss.

Your family is in my prayers. Steve, although never meeting him personally, was one of a kind. He brought so much laughter and knowledge to the horse racing board that I frequent, DerbyTrail, that I feel compelled to explain to you the impact that he's had on thousands of people, most that he hasn't even met, like myself. You could tell through his posts what kind of man he was. An opinionated man brimming with integrity. He left a lasting impression on us, for sure. Hang your head high, knowing Steve was truly one of a kind.

What can I say...shock, disbelief, and great sadness. Steve was a neighborhood best friend (4 houses down on Glenview Road), along with brothers Greg and Danny. Grade and high school together, and worked together for many years. The "machine" we all referred to Steve, since he hit almost every 3 pointer while playing basketball. From football, baseball, basketball and hockey, or Roosevelt pool, we were always hanging out. My prayers to LaVergne, Greg and Dan...may the angels of love and protection watch over your family. Steve was my brother, joyful and caring. I will miss you and your smile. Love Ed
