Theodore Kaye Obituary
Longtime Northbrook resident Ted Kaye passed away March 24 at Aspen Acres Assisted Living in Hayward, WI. He was 98. Theodore Walter Kopecko (the family name later was shortened to Kaye) was born Nov. 15, 1918, in Ironwood, MI. After taking a job with Stewart Warner in Chicago, he was able to use his radio and electronics knowledge while serving with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. In 1952, the Kaye family moved to Northbrook, where Ted began his own business - Kaye's TV Service, which he operated for about 40 years. In 1961, he and his wife, Dorothy (Dottie), purchased Liberty Lodge Resort in Hayward, which the family still owns. Ted is survived by Dottie, his wife of 73 years; his son, Daniel (Susan) of Northbrook; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kristin, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dollyne, and his parents, two brothers and three sisters. Ted loved his family, his many friends in the North Woods and Illinois, fishing in Spider Lake, and Liberty Lodge, where his ashes will be scattered. Dan,
I am very sorry for your loss. Although more than a half a century has passed since we stayed at Liberty Lodge, I still have vivid memories of our two weeks there. My best memory is of you and I trying to "surf" while pulling each other around the lake on an old door. It was a great summer vacation.
Memories are for keeps.
We were from Munster, Indiana but I now live in Arizona.

I remember very little about Ted but do have very good memories of playing with Dollyne as children. She had the greatest collection of dolls and I do remember coming to visit your home in Northbrook. Please accept my families condolences on the loss of your father.
