I knew Ted as a member of our local park (Harvard Park) tennis club. Ted always exhibited qualities of a gentleman and conducted himself in a manner befitting a sportsman. Our condolences to the family and may he be at peace with our father in heaven.

Vanessa and I were married at Angeles Mesa in 1976 and Ted and Georgia were friends of the family. Ted was one of the great Tuskegee Airman. They are all heroes and Ted was one of them. I was proud to know him.

Mr. Lumpkin was a hero of mine, but for a different reason. Mr. and Mrs. Lumpkin welcomed me into their home "as family" when I was their son's roommate in 1969 and stayed close to my heart since. Bless Mrs. Lumpkin, Ellen, Kelly and Tad.

Mr. Lumpkin, you and the Tuskegee Airmen (black pilots and support staff) served as great examples of African Americas who "exemplary performance opened the door for the racial integration of the military services, beginning with the Air Force, and contributed ultimately to the end of racial segregation the United States."

While I did not personally know Mr. Lumpkin, I was fortunate enough to share a ride in my plane with Mr. Bev Dunjill of the Chicago Dodo Chapter. I have always admired the Tuskegee Airmen for fighting one battle overseas and another back home. Have a peaceful flight west Mr. Lumpkin.
