Thomas William O'Brien of Glenview, age 84. Beloved husband of 60 years to Kathleen nee Runkle. Loving father of Thomas III (Ann), Sean (Tracy), Dan (Jennifer), and the late Timothy O'Brien. Proud Papa of Thomas IV, Maeve, Brendan, Connell, Cara, Cate, Devin, Abigail, Eamon, Ciaran, Annabelle and Hugh O'Brien. Dear brother of Gerald (Lori) O'Brien. Fond Uncle to many nieces and nephews and friend to many. Proud graduate of St. George High School, class of 1954 and the University of Notre Dame class of 1958. I couldn't even guess what decade that timeless photo of Tom O'Brien was taken, but it's the Tom I'll remember -- devoted husband to Kathleen; a young, energetic father and his childrens' biggest supporter; and proud grandfather in more recent years.
And I'll remember most of all the storyteller extraordinaire, including one story that never grew old -- Tom's recollection of his St. George Dragons' team, who won the 1953 Chicago City Football Championship. A story for the ages, after hearing Tom tell it! Listening to Tom's description of the game years later, I could almost imagine myself in Soldier Field that day, watching St. George trounce the powerhouse Austin High School team!
May the road rise up to meet you, Tom...you'll be missed!

Kathleen my heart goes out to you at this very sad time. Tom had such a big heart along with being the most humorous and happy friend I knew.
His shoes can never be filled and he will never be forgotten.
His love of you Kathleen, family, friends and ND are known by all! His love of the Irish and most everyone, will always be remembered as well!
Safe and happy traveling Tom, to your heavenly home. Not everyone leaves a mark in this world, but Tom did and I will miss him.
