While I didn´t know Mrs. Boyle well, her son John has been one of my closest friends since we went to college together a long time ago and Mark has been a good friend and correspondent for years. As you can see from the comments in this section, Mrs. Boyle was much loved by her community, by her students, and, especially, by her family. It is even easier to get a sense of what a wonderful woman she was when one gets to know her children; outstanding and upstanding people like the Boyles do not become that way by accident, but are the work of a nurturing, loving, supportive mother like Mrs. Boyle.

Through the years I have known John, he has frequently commented on his parents, and especially on his mother, and how much she meant to him. It was easy to see that his love and respect for his mom transcended the stereotypical "Ireland must be heaven because that´s where my mother was born" devotion that Irish kids are expected to have for their moms. John loves his mother and realizes that she had a huge role in his becoming the wonderful, intelligent, compassionate, and loving father, husband, friend, and citizen that all who know him see that he is. While I´m not sufficiently close to Mark and the other Boyles to have had such extensive conversations with them, I am sure that they share the same admiration and love for their mom.

The most enduring legacy we leave to this world is the children we nurture. By that measure, Mr. and Mrs. Boyle have done the world a great service. God bless them both and the entire Boyle family, all of whom remain in my prayers.
