Walter R. Bliss

Walter R. Bliss, age 91, of Downers Grove, IL, passed away January 26, 2022.

Walter was a retired chemistry professor and a brilliant musician.

A born performer, Walter taught himself to play the trumpet, and at the age of 14, joined the Musicians Local 10-208 in Chicago as a lifelong member. He graduated from Morton College and earned his B.A. from the University of Illinois. He spent his military service in the U.S. Army Band and taught chemistry at Morton College for 33 years.

Over the years, Walter would continue to perform with local and national bands across the Midwest. He also enjoyed collecting antiques and traveling the world with his wife, Dolores, a fellow musician and educator.

Walter is survived by his dear brother, Robert R. Bliss; his cherished nieces and nephews Lisa and Ed Krakowiak; Robert and Sandra Bliss; Laura and Christian Plekavic; great-nieces and great-nephews; and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dolores.
