Walter Nicolet Obituary

Nicolet, Walter Ogden
Walter Ogden Nicolet, age 85, died on December 6, 2009, at his home in Lake Bluff, IL, of natural causes. Born in Canton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Theodore Nicolet and Vera Ogden. In 1942, at the age of 18, Walt enlisted in the newly formed Army Air Force. He flew numerous combat missions with the Flying Tigers, was shot down over China, and spent over a month traveling on foot through enemy territory until he safely reached Allied lines. Upon his honorable discharge from the army, Walt returned to Ohio where he attended Hiram College. Following his graduation, Walt began working at Union Metal Manufacturing and married Nancy Froelich, also of Canton, Ohio. Walt was subsequently promoted and transferred to Illinois, where he resided in Lake Bluff for the remainder of his life. Following his retirement, he pursued hobbies and enjoyed family and friends. He will be remembered for his kindness, resilience, and independence. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Nicolet and her husband, Marshall Burt of Chicago; his daughter, Denise Groth and her husband, David, of Sugar Land, Texas; and four grandchildren, Madeline, Taylor, Nicholas, and Kathryn. He was preceded in death by his son, Walter F. Nicolet of Lake Bluff. A private memorial will be held. Info: Wenban Funeral Home, Lake Forest, 847-234-0022 or [email protected].
