William Flood Obituary

age 82, passed away peacefully Saturday June 4, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family in Geneva, IL.

William was born at St Annes Hospital to Emmet and Muriel Flood. He graduated from St Ignatius High School in 1957. He met the love of his life at the age of 16. They married October 15, 1960 started their family in Oak Park. Having worked for small waste haulers William and his brothers Joe & Emmet began their own waste hauling company O.Z. Miller Disposal LTD. in 1963 growing the small firm of one truck to eight. In 1970, Flood Bros Disposal Co. was incorporated. Mike would oversee the growth for the next fifty-one years to 200 collection trucks with Flood Bros Disposal Co. being one of the last family owned & operated waste hauler in the Chicago Metropolitan area today.

William and wife Carole were instrumental in "Christmas Food Packing" that would feed up to 4,000 families through various charities in Cook, Dupage & Kane areas. He was a devoted Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

William truly lived a spiritual life, dedicated to his church and helping others whenever needed. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling, sharing stories of which he had many. He loved gardening. He had an uncanny ability to make people feel special and laugh.

William was a Board member of the Daughters of St Paul and was very involved with their organization.

He is survived by his brother John, sisters Anne (Martin) Quinn, Muriel McDarrah. His sister-in-law Denise (Phil) Dixon, sisters-in-law Wanda Evon and Mary Ann Flood, nine children; William, Brian, Kevin, Michele (Pat) Mele, Michael (Christine) Flood, Deborah (David) DiIorio, Christopher (Kerry) Flood, David (Julie) Flood, Coleen (Jay) Geary. Grandchildren William (Megan) Flood, Susan (Steve) Denson, Kara (Brian) Katzenbach, Michael (Stephanie Dziagwa), Sheila (Johnny Larson) Matthew (Melanie) Flood, Tom (Kristine) Flood, Shawn (Gianna) Flood, Brian, Christopher (Breanne) Flood, Eric, Justin, Courtney, Caroline, Charles, Patrick, Carole Anne, Anthony, Chloe, Shannon, Dillon, Grace, Gabriella, Michael, Liam, Fiona, Shea, Kylene, Bridget, Cullen, Luke, Brody. Great grandchildren Michael, Sebastian, Aiden, Anthony, Ryan, Lucas, Johnny, Averie, Nova, Oakley.

He is preceded in death by his wife Carole who passed away in 2019; his parents; siblings Emmet, Joseph, and Mary Wallace; Helen Flood; brother-in-law Philip; and granddaughter Gabriella.

His family will always cherish the memories and stories of a truly inspirational husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 3:00 – 8:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E State St., Geneva, IL with the Rosary recited at 7:45pm.

Funeral Prayers will be held Friday, June 10, 2022 at 9:00 am at Malone Funeral Home proceeding to St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Rd., Geneva, IL for celebration of Funeral Mass at 10:00 am with Msgr. Kenneth Velo, Celebrant.

Burial will follow at St Mary's Cemetery, 10 N Buffalo Grove Rd., Buffalo Grove, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Daughters of St. Paul, 50 St. Paul's Avenue, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 would be appreciated.

On behalf of the 600 families served each Christmas Season, I would like to thank Mr. Flood for his kindness, generosity, humor and never ending support over the past 20 years. He was a great man, who could weave a story like no other. We will all miss him. Thankfully, he taught his family well. Rest In Peace.

SS for OUR loss of a beautiful man.he was an inspiration to many.
I talked to him a few weeks ago and he was cheerful and made me laugh eventhough I know he wasn´t feeling well.
