William Hart Obituary

Judge William Hart, 93, passed away peacefully at his home on January 17, 2023. Longtime resident of Aurora, Hart enjoyed his later years at The Clare in Chicago. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Catherine "Kay" (nee Motta); daughters Catherine Maher (Michael), Susan DaMario (Thomas), Julie Boesen (Peter), Sally Collins (James) and Nancy McLaughlin (Michael); grandchildren Matthew (Elizabeth), Sarah and Timothy Fornero; Thomas, Michael (Madeja) and Julia DaMario; Rebecca (Joseph), Emily (Ryan), William (Katherine) and Theodore Boesen; J. Wesley, Joseph, Adam and Jillian Collins; and Michael, Liam and Finian McLaughlin and eight great-grandchildren.

Hart served as a judge in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois for nearly 40 years. A 1951 graduate of Loyola University Chicago School of Law, he served in the U.S. Army, and then began his career as a prosecutor, working as an Assistant U.S. Attorney; a Special Assistant Attorney General of Illinois and a Special Assistant State's Attorney of Cook County. In private practice from 1956 - 1982, he was a partner with Schiff, Hardin & Waite when appointed to the bench in April 1982.

Throughout his life, Hart gave generously of his time to numerous organizations, including Rosary High School in Aurora, the Chicago Legal Assistance Foundation, Catholic Charities and as a Minister of Care for Holy Name Cathedral.

Visitation January 24 at 9:30 AM at Holy Name Cathedral, with a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Chicago. Info: www.michalikfuneralhome.com or 312-421-0936.
