ANN ROOD Obituary

ANN ROOD April 12, 1929 - August 4, 2010

Ann Rood, widow and forever friend of Sterling, mother of Shelly, Carrie and Stephanie, and friend of many, died August 4, 2010. She was 81.

Her life was a life well-lived, rich, rewarding and complete. Each day was a day to learn something new and to make a stranger a friend. She was a living lesson of how to live and will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Headley Hutton residence at 685 Stilson Canyon Road, Chico.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sterling and Ann Rood Memorial Scholarship Fund, Account No. 08139, University Foundation, CSU Chico, Chico, California 95929-0240, (530) 898-4796.

Ann touched so many lives, including mine. We met through Marian Osterloh (she passed away in March) and enjoyed the Mendocino Music Festival and visits on the coast. I know those two friends are together again, and that helps the loss. My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends.

Losing Ann is a very difficult gift!!!

Dear Shelly and family, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Your mother was such a wonderful lady. So many of us were shocked of her passing. She was in my store about 3 weeks ago, she told me that I was on her list of people to see, I'm very honored now! All tied up in a purple ribbon were four coin spoons, on the back, the name Staples. We had no idea where they came from, if in fact they are part of my family, I am blessed to have them. In our large neighborhood growing up, I so loved spending time with your family. Your mother will be missed dearly. Keep your memories close to your heart.

Our disbelief and sadness at Ann's passing is overwhelming. She was such a unique, sincere and kind woman. She was the first to support you in your time of need. I know of her giving back to people all over the world through her nursing care, but she gave to those in Chico first. Our families were friends in the "old days" but Ann kept in touch and we had great fun whenever we met up. My family and I are proud to have called her friend. She will live in our memories and will be deeply missed. You are all in our prayers.

We became friends with Ann through her cousin Bob Wilkins when she came to San Marcos for a visit. She was a wonderful, kind and caring person who always had a smile on her face. We feel honored to have
known her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her daughters and the rest of her extened family. She will be deeply missed.

Shelly, Carrie, and Stephanie, I read the ER on the computer, I couldn't believe Ann gone. I have a lot of good, wonderful, memories of Ann. The last time I saw her she was having so much fun having dinner with friends. I gave her my half bottle of wine as I left another table. I will remember the happy face. Ann made a lot of reservations for me and she always took pictures of me at parties and functions, saying the photographer never has her picture taken, and mail them to me.She was always so happy. We took our big animals, horses and cows to your dad also. One of our dogs got run over by a disc and Sterling got Dr. Gibson to help him sew. I photographed one of the girls wedding in your back yard, remember the grape arbor.
I am so sorry I will miss her. My prayers are with you girls, may your memories sustain you.
