David Torres Obituary

DAVID TORRES David Andrew Torres died on March 30, 2020, at his home in Chico, California after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Colusa, California on May 11, 1945, to Frank and Mary Torres of Princeton, California and graduated from Princeton High School in 1963. In August of 1966, David married Susan Olson in Reno, Nevada. They had two daughters together and later divorced in 1991. He met Pam Hileski in the summer of 1992 and the two shared a life together of adventure, exploring and travel until his passing. Upon graduation from high school, David began his lifelong love and career as a farmer. He farmed mostly rice, but also had other crops. Harvest was one of his most favorite times of the year. Often, after finishing his own fields, he helped friends and family in theirs. He retired in 2013 but continued to find a way to be a part of harvest by driving an extra harvester or bank-out for friends. David was also a part of the California Agricultural Leadership Program, Class XVI. He was proud of this achievement. It allowed him to serve as a leader in the agricultural industry while learning about international agriculture by traveling and meeting with leaders in Washington DC, New York, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Peru. David was an avid motorcycle rider. He raced flat-track and motocross when he was young and rode Harleys later in life. He was a member of the Chico HOGs, where he was an Assistant Director and Director twice. He made long lasting friends and enjoyed the camaraderie of the group. His Harley took him to different cities across the United States, including the Sturgis Rally in South Dakota and all the way to Key West, Florida. David's love of bird hunting also took him to different parts of the world. He would not miss an opening day of pheasant season and loved nothing more than spending a weekend at "The Cabina" with his friends, hunting, cooking, and laughing. David was a beloved father and grandfather. He loved his grandsons and they him. He was a pilot, an abalone and scuba diver, a builder and "fixer of all things", a traveler, a cook, and a joke teller. He loved to have a good time and liked to make people laugh. his heart was big and full of love. love for life, his family, and his friends. David is survived by his partner in life Pam Hileski; daughters Monique Torres (Ken Mauck) of San Diego and Jennifer Tullius of San Diego. He will be missed by his grandsons Jack, Lucas, and Max and Pam's grandson, Kimoni. Preceded in death by brother Frank Torres, Jr., and sister MaryEllen Smallwood. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, David's family and friends have been unable to gather to celebrate his life for the past year. Thankfully, it is now safe to do so. Funeral service for David will be held on July 30, 2021, at 11:30am at Newton-Bracewell Funeral Home at 680 Camelia Way, Chico, CA 95926.
