Donald Hummer Obituary

Donald Richard Hummer passed away on December 31, 2004. He was born on August 12, 1915 in Lima, Ohio to Richard Louis and Mary E. Hummer. He had no brothers or sisters. In February 1941, he was married to Phyllis J. McGarvictory of San Bernardino, Calif.; they had one son, John, born in 1947. John lives in Sacramento with his wife Danielle. They also had one daughter, Marla; she and her husband Paul Mason live in Paradise. Paul is a biology teacher at Butte College; they have two daughters, Lacy and Brittany.

In 1961, Don and Phyllis moved to Live Oak, Calif. because Don had a job going at Beale Air Force Base. While in Live Oak, they opened a restaurant called Donellis, down on old Hwy 99E between Live Oak and Yuba City. Don became interested in politics. He became a City Councilman for Live Oak and finally Mayor and also ran for the State Board of Equalization. In 1968, they moved back to San Bernardino and once again, he became active in his chosen profession, general contracting. In 1978, he sold his property in San Bernardino for acreage just outside of Chico.

He was Life Member of the Elks Lodge and the National Rifle Association. Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in his name may do so to the Chico Elks Lodge or the American Cancer Society in care of Brusie Funeral Home.
