Well, I guess we didn't go to Hearse Castle, but Hearst Castle in San Simeon, CA. I have been justly corrected.

I met Ed in the fall of 2000 when it was suggested by a mutual friend that I consider moving in with him at his house in Paradise. He had lost his wife the year before and was living up there all by himself. He was 80 at the time. So, we tried it for a month. Wow, that was 14 years ago - that's a long month!

One of the first things we did was rent a 21 foot cab over truck, packed up our three dogs and toured the coast along Highway 1 from Morro Bay to Santa Cruz. I arranged for him to have a private wheelchair tour through Hearse Castle in San Anselmo. It wasn't long after that when Ed had his second open heart surgery and his family hired me to be his caregiver, which I agreed to without hesitation.

Not long after, we moved from Paradise to our current home in Yankee Hill where we set up our nonprofit, training service dogs. Then in 2004 I decided to change my name. I was honored and thrilled that Ed would let me take his last name, as he had become the father I never had.

In one of our late-night talks; and we had lots of them, I made a promise to Ed that I would do everything in my power to let him finish out his days at home if that's what he chose to do. I am so glad I was able to keep that promise to him.

One of the most wonderful things about Ed is that he never judged anyone, including myself. He wasn't a very spiritual man, but the way he lived his life and the moral code that he adhered to, I will be proud to model my own life after.

Being a part of his life has been a real blessing to me. I'm going to miss him greatly.

I will always think of Ed and Sean in the same memories. K9 Crossroads and just visiting. A good friend to my mom as well. What a loveable man! God bless your rest.

I fondly remember my uncle Bud -- he used to babysit for me and came to my rescue when at 9 I wanted to jump out a window -- he didn't let me. Lynn and I had a grand time with him and Rosie at Liz and Jan's home in Maine a number of years ago... he reminded me so much of my Pa....

I didn't know Ed very long, less than a year, and only spent time with him on two occasions. However, I bonded with him quickly and one of my best memories was making English muffins with strawberry jam and sharing them along with some good conversation. I could just tell he was a good human being. He won my heart. I'll miss him too.

Every time I see Ed, he has had a firm hand shake, a big smile, and sharp wit.
A good man and will be missed.

I always enjoyed talking to "Ed" at the Birdcage theatre after performances, he always had a smile and was easy going, I will certainly miss him, but I know he is enjoying himself with mutual friends where he is ... Rest peacefully my friend ... :-)
