Jerry Mastelotto Obituary

JERRY "BOBBY" MASTELOTTO His Legacy: Bobby was born November 15, 1936 in Portola, California. He was one of ten children born to Mose and Marvel Mastelotto. Bobby passed away after a long illness on January 22, 2019. He went to Oroville High School and onto Yuba Jr. College, where he was inducted into their Hall of Fame. He then graduated from the University of Utah where he had quite the football career. He loved football from when he was small until the very end. He was proud of his days when he played football for the University of Utah. He was "great and fast", you only needed to ask him and he would be the first to tell you, just how good he was with a broad smile and twinkle in his eyes. Like many of his brothers, Bobby started working in the logging business at a young age. He was not one who liked to get dirty or sweaty (unless it was on the football field). He dreamed of being a coach, but after graduating from college and serving in the Army, he started his own business "Bonus International". He pioneered gas stations with convenience stores, had an oil refinery and ran some cattle on the side. He was an entrepreneur and loved the business risk and challenge. He was always thinking, busy and living life to the fullest. His Family: Bobby married his college sweetheart Camille and they have three children together. Mark, Dana (Mike) and Christin. There are four grandchildren, Austin (Toni), Taylor (Andre), Dustin and Brandon. He was recently blessed with two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Max, who show signs of being great athletes. He later married his wife of 20 years, Kimberly Cooney who he cherished till the end. Even exceeding his love of the game, Bobby loved his family. He loved all of their accomplishments and just spending time with them. He is survived by his devoted wife Kim and two of his brothers Roy (Lillian) and Mose (Roselyn) and his dear sister-in-law Berthe. He has joined his brothers Jim, John, Glen and Bruno and several of his closest friends including Freddie Syler, Bob Coogan and Ken Vierra. They most certainly are enjoying a football game and reminiscing with a glass of Crown Royal right now. He will be remembered for his love of life, his kindness, sense of humor and his genuine smile. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Stone Valley for all their love and attention, especially during his final days. The family would also like to give a special and loving tribute to Gabriella "Gabbye" who was his personal caregiver. Gabbye provided care, respect and love to Bobby during his prolonged illness and brought constant joy to him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, 1138 Wright St, Reno.

I remembe4r when the Mastelottos first moved to Oroville. They were near neighbors. when they moved to town from Portola I ran home and told my mother that a family named the Enchilados had moved to town. She corrected the name and said that they had a reputation of being a flock of wild unruly kids. That they proved to be. At Eastside school we had a couple of cowboy gangs; Robert's (bobby) and James (Jimmy). We would run around at recess slapping our thigh and shooting with our finger guns. I was in Robert's gang. Bobby and I were close friends our whole life. The boys were wonderful athletes In high school. Bobby was the 160 pound fullback on Oroville High School's first of several undefeated football teams. He switched to tight T quarterback at Yuba College. All the 'unruly kids' grew up to be great athletes, exemplary citizens and assets to the community. Bobby was small and not incredibly gifted but the fiercest competitor I have ever known. Near the time the CTE affected him greatly we collaborated on a C&W song that was never completed. Bobby was what has been called an over-achiever. According to Bill Walsh, there are no over-achievers. You either achieve or you don't. Bobby achieved. I will miss you bro. RIP
