JOHN WINTERS Obituary

JOHN WINTERS

John winters was born July 20, 1924 in Logan, West Virginia, and passed away on July 7, 2011, in Oroville, CA, at the age of 86.

John was the son of Sophie Kurc and Michael Winter, who emigrated from Austria and Bohemia in the early 1900's.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ruby; three sisters, Mary, Ann, and Sophie; three brothers, Steve, Nicholas, and Mike.

He is survived by his brother, Frank Winters (Janice); children, Jennifer Campbell (Bob), Laura King (Kerry); grandchildren, Jonathan Lee Petty (Stacey), Jennifer Hobbs, William King (Melanie); great-grandchildren, Desanique Hobbs, DeAndre Hobbs, Katie King, T.J. Guidry, and Ruby May Petty.

John enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17, and was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean War. He grew up in West Virginia, before moving to Sacramento, CA in the early 1950's, seeking a better life for his family. He worked as an electrician for over 18 years for the City of Sacramento, and retired as Electrical Supervisor in the department of General Services in August 1988.

He loved bowling, and his high score was 287. He enjoyed woodworking, organic gardening and other outdoor activities. He was a caregiver and loving father. Because he grew up poor, he always gave to children in need of food and clothing. He leaves a legacy of a humble man, who placed honesty, helping those in need, and the protection of nature and all animals above all else. Throughout his entire life, he avoided unnecessary waste and recycled and repurposed long before anyone understood the terms. He was self-taught and enjoyed studying Physics and scientific theories. Fiercely independent, he lived alone until the very end of his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

As requested, no services will be held.
