Joy McAdams Brewer Scott

JOY MCADAMS BREWER SCOTT Joy McAdams Brewer Scott entered eternal life on August 5, 2014. Born in Hays, Kansas, Joy was preceded in death by her parents Dr. and Mrs. William Brewer and her sister Barbara. Joy graduated from Hays High School and went on to earn a B.A. in English from the University of Kansas and an M.A. in Education from Radcliff-Harvard University. During the past 29 years Joy divided her time between Chico, California, and Seattle, Washington. She was a devoted member of the Church of Christ, Scientists. She was an avid reader, enjoyed yoga and tai chi, and she volunteered at arts and civic organizations in both Seattle and Chico. Joy traveled extensively both with her family and on her own, and she taught English as a second language in Seattle, Shanghai, Macau, and Hong Kong. Joy is survived by her husband, Robert Haney Scott, by her children, William, Ann, Sarah, and Elizabeth, and by her grandchildren and her great- grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, William (Mac) Brewer of Tucson, Arizona, John Brewer of Lawrence, Kansas and Egon Sommer of Dickens, Nebraska. Memorial will be held at Trinity Methodist Church on Saturday September 27, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Chico Friends of the Library would be appreciated.
