Marvin Lohse Obituary

MARVIN WILLIAM LOHSE

Marvin William Lohse was born on the dining room table on October 7, 1938 at the family home in Ord Bend to Adolph and Helene Lohse. He left for his heavenly home on April 5, 2008. He attended the small elementary school in Ord Bend and high school in Hamilton City. He participated in all sports and raised a herd of purebred Hereford breeding stock in FFA. The day he graduated, he reported for duty with the O.S. Marine Corps. He was invited to become a member of the first Reconnaissance Battalion, developing a modern doctrine of intelligence gathering. Upon returning home, he joined his brothers in the family farming operation. He married Myrna Cannon, from Red Bluff, in February 1960. They had two sons, Mark and Michael. Marvin was always involved in their activities such as Little League, Boy Scouts, FFA, and Booster Clubs. St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Artois was his lifetime church and spiritual support. He was active on the U.S. Agbank Boards for over thirty years and the California Sugar Beet Association, predominantly in leadership positions. He was a member of the Glenn Golf Course and the Colusa Historical Society. In 2003, Marvin drew up preliminary plans for a home on the Bailey Creek Golf Course in Plumas County. Upon construction, he enjoyed this mountain home as well as the golfing.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Myrna; his son, Mark, who he in partnership with in farming, and his "adopted daughter", Sharon and her family, also two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, Michael David and brothers, Otto and George.

A funeral service will be held, Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Artois. Committal services will follow at the Artois Cemetery with a reception at the Lutheran Hall in Artois afterwards. If you so wish, donations may be made to the Marvin Lohse Memorial Fund at Bank of America, c/o F D Sweet & Son Mortuary, 114 N. Shasta St., Willows CA, or a charity of your choice.
