Robert Sellers Obituary

ROBERT "BOB"

SELLERS

August 27, 1920-August 23, 2008

Bob was born in Chariton, Iowa on August 27, 1920 to Guy and Bertha Sellers, and passed away peacefully in Chico on August 23, 2008. He was one of ten children sisters, Ella Webb, Jesse Robinson, Ruth Thomas, Lovilla Linn (all alive and raising cain) and Wilma Binson (deceased); and brothers, Edwin, Perry, Charles and Jim (all deceased), and spent his early years on the family farm. In the late 1930's he followed his older brother, Jim, west to Chico. In 1942 he was drafted into the Army and served in the European theatre until the conclusion of the second World War. For wounds received in action, he was awarded the Purple Heart medal. Following the war, he returned to Chico and found work as a mechanic first with Milligan Motors Studebaker, then with Mel Moller Studebaker, and finally in partnership with his brother as Sellers Brothers Auto Service. The business closed with his brother Jim's retirement, and Bob then worked for several years for Chico Auto Parts in outside sales and delivering parts to area farmers. He then spent many happy years working the counter at son Brad's Home Bakery.

In October 1948 he married Reva Jacobson, and they would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. Together they raised four children Clifford, twins, Janice and Bradley, and Tracy. He is survived by his wife, Reva; Clif and Dolores Sellers, and their sons, Jason and Brennan, Jan and Russ Burnham, and their sons, Blake and Trent; Brad Sellers, and his sons, Trevor, Sam and Peter; and Tracy and Jon Herfindahl, and their daughter Shannon.

Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) and very active in the church. He was also a long time leader in the Boy Scouts, serving both local troops and at the district level. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening and walking. Following his retirement, he and Reva, often with other family, were able to travel visiting most of the United States, Europe, Mexico and Canada.

Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Bob's memory can do so to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints missionary fund, the Boy Scouts of America, the Alzheimer's Association, or other charitable organization serving community youth.

A Visitation will be held at the Newton Bracewell Funeral Home on Thursday, August 28, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, East Avenue West and Alamo Avenue, Chico at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2008 with burial at Glen Oaks Cemetery to follow. Jan and Russ--My prayers are with you and your family. This comforting thought came from a friend, and I now share it with you as a friend: "Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day." I'm sure your Dad was extra special, Jan, so enjoy the walk, with happy memories.

Sister Sellers...so very sad to hear about your lovely husband passing, but know that he has been released from this awful prison of Alzheimers that he has been suffering to valiantly with. He was always such a joy and always providing a hello and smile to us when seeing him. We pray for your comfort and know we will all be united again one day. Love and caring to you and all.

Bob and Reva were our first neighbors. We began our family during those years. They became our lifetime friends. Emmett has passed on, and I am sure he and Bob will have much to talk about in the next life. He will be missed, too.

I still remember 2 trips to California, in 1955 and 1959, with my family. We had a great time with your family and with Jim's family. At the age of 11, I got to see redwoods and the ocean for the first time. Many fond memories of Uncle Bob. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I did not know Robert personally and only recently have established contact with Reva and his sister Lovilla Linn, but the Sellers family (his grandmother and mine were sisters) was a big part of my life, can't count the times I rode from his Uncle Harris' farm going up the next hill West past his Dad's farm & on to Robert's grandmother's place on the next hill beyond. My thoughts & prayers are with all of Robert's family.
