Hazel Laverne McVey Hammond

Hazel died peacefully at age 88, she was proceeded in death by her husband Donald Leslie Hammond and son Ryan Murray Hammond. Hazel is survived by daughter Gerry Hammond, Tallahassee, Florida, son Bret Donald Hammond (wife Rhonda) Crawfordville, Florida, granddaughter Julia Kay Gerrell (husband Eli) Crawfordville, Florida, grandson Donald John Hammond, Orlando, Florida, grandson Cutter Bret Hammond, Crawfordville, Florida, grandson Chandler Reuben Hammond, Tallahassee, Florida, great grandson Everett Christopher Gerrell, Crawfordville, Florida, and great grandson Kade Jamison Gerrell, Crawfordville, Florida and a devoted family friend, Norah Handley, Tallahassee, Florida.

Hazel was a devoted wife, mother and loving grandparent and great grandmother. She lived and worked for many years in the town of Chiefland, Florida, where she raised her family and had many friends. Later, after relocating to the Tallahassee area, she was an advocate for higher education, reading and children. For many years she served as a volunteer for the 'Friends of the Leon County Public Library' and volunteered at a local child care center Downtown Babies. She will be missed by many, but most importantly her family.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you make a contribution to a local charity of your choice or plant trees in a local or sustainable forest. A Celebration of Hazel's life will be noticed at a later date.
