Steve Hunt went home to be with The Lord Sunday, January 30, 2022.
After receiving a double lung transplant in 2019, Steve recovered and did well until a series of complications and setbacks mounted and ultimately overcame him.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years Patricia (Cash) Hunt, daughters Cheryl Russell (Mike), and Rebecca Calvo (Abel), grandchildren Christian Calvo, Sienna Calvo and Cade Russell. He is also survived by his sister Mary Holcomb (Kevin Sr.) and brother John Hunt, along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Kenneth Hunt (1988), mother Marguerite Hunt (2005), and brother Walter Hunt (Donna) (2019).
Steve was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1958 and attended Henry F. Kite Elementary School, Kirby Smith Junior High School and Andrew Jackson Senior High School before graduating from Florida Junior College in 1976. He worked in management and sales for a variety of companies, most notably McLane Company for more than two decades. Steve was a man of strong Christian faith that never faltered during his life-long struggle with rheumatoid arthritis nor with his more recent diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis.
He was a deacon of Hardeetown Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and actively served his church and community until the COVID-19 pandemic and worsening illness curtailed his further active ministry. All who knew Steve saw a faithful Christian and wonderful family man. He helped others tirelessly and spread the Gospel through his actions and words. He loved to laugh and always wore a smile regardless of his physical struggle. The family wishes to thank all who served on his care team at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville for their expertise and compassionate support over the last two and a half years.
