Catherine Hayes Obituary

Catherine A. "Kay" Hayes

CHILLICOTHE: Catherine A. "Kay" Hayes, 94, died 5:25 p.m. September 27, 2013 at Traditions of Chillicothe following a brief illness.

She was born June 13th, 1919 to the late John Martin Iuler and Mary Ophelia Armstrong Iuler. On October 9, 1942, she married Orson L. Hayes in New Rochelle, New York. He died on January 25, 1997.

She is survived by two sons, John O. Hayes and his wife Kathy, and James I. Hayes, all of Chillicothe; one brother, Donald E. Iuler and his wife Ruth of Columbus, Ohio, and their sons Robert (Ruth) Iuler of Tennessee and Steve (Lisa) Iuler of Columbus, Ohio and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Iuler.

Catherine was also "Grandma Kay" to Kathy's large, extended Family, and she will be especially missed by Rachael, Kathryn and Tommy Bolte.

Catherine graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1937 and then went to Business School in Columbus, Ohio. She was employed by the Ohio Fuel Gas Company for a number of years. She later was a co-owner of the Brass Bell gift shop with her son John. But her favorite job of all was working at M. Schachne and Sons in Chillicothe where she worked part time off and on over the years.

Catherine was a long time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was a lifetime member of Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority.

The family would like to thank the staff of Traditions (especially the staff on the second floor) and In-Care Hospice for all of their patience, kindness, and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to In-Care Hospice 681 Third Street Waverly, Ohio 45690.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Father Richard B. Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call at Ware's from 12 noon until the time of the service on Wednesday.

John, Kathy and Jim,
Although I haven't seen you since you were small children, Catherine's mother, Mary Armstrong and my father Lowell Armstrong were brother and sister so Catherine and I are cousins. At one time I delivered newspapers to your parents home on Church Street but I moved from Chillicothe 55 years ago. The last time I saw Catherine was when she was kind enough to attend my mothers funeral in Chillicothe 17 years ago. We are very sorry for your loss and you are in our thoughts and prayers.
