Claris Melcher Obituary
CHILLICOTHE: Claris Gill Melcher, 88, of Chillicothe, died 3:55 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2014 at National Church Residence of Chillicothe.
Claris was born July 11, 1925, in Mission, Texas, to the late Tom and Charlotte (Brooks) Gill. She was preceded in death by husbands, Glenn L. Bowers (1952) and Frank Melcher (1992); and sisters, Denley Boone and Charlotte Bohman.
Surviving are a daughter, Dr. Janet Bowers (Roger Hartman); a son, Glenn Bowers; her granddaughter, Danielle Jeffers (Dan Jeffers); a great granddaughter, Danica Jeffers; Tommie Jean Langley (Ralph) and a host of other much loved relatives and friends.
Claris had an enduring love of her family, local history and the Presbyterian Church. She served as an Elder, and Treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church of Chillicothe. In addition, she played for many years in the Old Rock Bell Choir, was moderator for Presbyterian Women and received A Woman of Faith award from the Presbytery of Scioto Valley. Claris was a volunteer for many years at the Pump House Art Gallery and remained a lifetime member of the Chillicothe Historical Society. She never tired of drives into the beautiful southern Ohio countryside, collecting antiques and learning about Ohio history. She had a smile for everyone and embraced her life, family and friends with love, wisdom and grace.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2014, in the WARE FUNERAL HOME with Rev. James W. Grove officiating. There will be no calling hours. A private burial will follow in Green Summit Cemetery, Adelphi, OH.
Claris' family would like to express their gratitude to all who cared about her and especially the staff at Traditions and Hospice in Chillicothe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, National Church Residences, 142 University Dr. Chillicothe, Ohio 45601.
