The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Robert (Bobby) Stewart our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Bobby. And to Bobby it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for his service in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and for the selfless sacrifices he made for his country while serving with the U.S. Army. No greater love and patriotism is shown than a man dedicate his life in service to his country. Bobby, you were a brave Army Warrior and a true Patriot. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Bobby's family and loved ones.

I remember how hard Bobby worked to get his GED and pass the ASFAB so he could serve his country. I'm sure he swore at that algebra book under his breath when no one was within earshot, but he was determined to succeed; and succeed he did. We were so proud of him, but no one was prouder than his grandfather. Prayers for strength for his family and friends.

Stewart. I've been thinking a lot about you this year. Wondering when you were gonna make it down here in your car to spend a few weeks with me and the family. You were always there for me brother. We had some good times. Driving you home to Ohio from Walter Reed so you could see your family on your leave. I got to meet the family and stay the night before I headed back to D.C, your family treated me as their own right away. I look forward to making another drive up to Grove City when I get done with my medical board to visit with your family and share some of our crazy stories and adventures, well maybe not all of them lol. I love you brother and miss you so much. I will see you on the other side.

Bobby was a great guy. He and our grandson, Josh McCullar, were at Walter Reed Medical Hospital together. We visited several times and "Stewart" was always on our welcoming committee. We enjoyed him so much and loved to sit and talk with him. He and Josh were very close friends, like brothers in many ways. Our deepest sympathies go out to all the family in your loss. Prayers for comfort for all of you.

We were so saddened to learn about Bobby's sudden passing. He was at Walter Reed with my son, Josh. They became the best of friends and were always together. I felt comfort knowing he was there for my son when I couldn't be. I did have the priveledge of meeting him on a visit last June and really enjoyed spending time with him. I'm so thankful that God allowed them to cross paths after they both were injured serving our country. I sincerely thank him and his family for his service in such a terrible war and find comfort that he is now in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

My condolences to the family. He was such a lively guy! Always making jokes or acting goofy. And definitely a class clown. He truly was one of a kind. He'll be missed by many. Rest easy Bobby!
