Barbara E. Johnson, 72, Country Club, MO, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
She was born March 30, 1953 to William J. and Betty L. (Jones) Grimes in Chillicothe, MO.
Barbara married Larry Clinton Johnson on November 23, 1974. They were married 51 years.
Graduating as a registered nurse, Barbara devoted over four decades of her life to the medical profession. Her career was a testament to her enduring commitment to care and service. She diligently worked at Sisters Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, Specialists of Internal Medicine, St. Lukes, Caregivers, Linncare, and Apria, touching countless lives with her warmth and expertise. Barbara was a nurse by trade but cared for and helped everyone else in between with her big heart.
She served on the St. Joseph Arthritis Board and was instrumental in co-founding the Aquatic-Aerobic Program at Missouri Western State University, bringing health and joy to many participants.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Steven Grimes.
Survivors include her husband, Larry; children, Melanie O'Callaghan (Chad) and Kali Schaeffer; grandchildren, Keeleigh O'Callaghan, Kiefer O'Callaghan, Beckham Rowe, Ridge Schaeffer, and Millie Schaeffer; sister, Beverly Toup; nephews, Brian Thomas, Jared Thomas, and Derek Thomas.
Farewell Services and Public Livestream 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will gather with friends two hours prior to the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Multi-Systems Atrophy Coalition. Online guest book and obituary at www.meierhoffer.com.
