Donald Plowman Obituary

DONALD PAUL PLOWMAN Donald Paul Plowman, age 88, of Chillicothe, MO, passed away on October 10, 2025, in Chillicothe, Missouri. Donald was born to Paul James (Dick) Plowman and Emma Rachel (Reeter) Plowman on January 14, 1937, in rural Chillicothe, Missouri. He was a 1955 graduate of Chillicothe High School. He served in the Army National Guard from 1959 to 1966 and retired as an Army Spec. 4. Donald was united in marriage to Joyce P. E. Norton in the home of Reverend O.H. Loomis in Savannah, Missouri, on June 8, 1961. Donald worked 40 years for Donaldson Company in Chillicothe. He was promoted to several positions within the company and retired as a Tool and Die Maker in 1999. Donald also farmed the family acreage near Sampsel, Missouri, most of his life. After his parents passed, he and his brother, Darrell, bought and continued growing crops and hay. Don also enjoyed hunting and fishing on their land. Donald was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and for many years, he and Joyce taught 4th-grade Sunday School together. Don was a great male role model to all the kids. Donald and Gilbert Cox started the Chillicothe Horseshoe Pitchers Association. Horseshoe pitchers in the area looked forward to the Chillicothe tournament because it was so well organized. For years, Don enjoyed traveling to horseshoe tournaments in Missouri. Donald was an avid bowler in Chillicothe and served as league secretary for many years. He calculated the individual averages and team standings. Bowlers selected him, knowing that he was honest and would keep the records to the best of his ability. Donald was hard-working, mild-mannered, caring, and a good person. In addition to horseshoes and bowling, Don enjoyed activities with his family, playing cards, walking with friends, and getting together with the guys at Plowman's Garage. He will be missed by his family and friends. Donald is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce, of their home. Also survived by daughters, Marcie Sharp and husband, Bob, of Chillicothe, Missouri, and Marlynn Lewin and husband, Robert, of Papillion, Nebraska; Granddaughters, Amanda Hicks (Nick) of Gretna, Nebraska, Megan McNerney (Matt) of Parkville, Missouri, and Haley Gambhir (Ash) of Sandy, Utah; great grandchildren, Mckinnley and Delaney Hicks, and Mathias McNerney; brother, Darrell Plowman, and sister, Darlene Lee (Roger), all of Chillicothe, Missouri; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Donald was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Mary Plowman. Funeral Services will be held at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 2 pm.
