David Bollom Obituary

David L. Bollom, 69, of 319 S. Grove St., Chippewa Falls, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at his home with Northwest Hospice, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born August 20, 1934, in Chippewa Falls to Wilhelmina "Billie" (Visser) and Leonard L. Bollom. He grew up in Chippewa Falls and attended First Ward Grade School, Chippewa Falls Junior High School and graduated from Chippewa Falls Senior High School in 1952. He entered the U. S. Navy on Aug. 18, 1952, and was stationed in San Diego, Calif., where he attended communication school. He was then assigned to the USS Rochester cruiser and was stationed in Korea and other areas of the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged Aug. 17, 1955, as a Seaman First Class.

Dave returned to Chippewa Falls, where he was employed at National Presto Industries and later was employed at Darley Pump from 1957 to 1966. He was then employed at Uniroyal in Eau Claire from 1966 to 1992. Later, he attended Chippewa Valley Technical College truck driving school and became employed as a bus driver for Chippewa County Human Services from 1995 to 2000.

Dave married Patricia Horne on Aug. 20, 1960. They had four children and were divorced in 1980. He was then married to Patricia "Patti" Boeve on April 25, 1987, at Central Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls.

Dave was a member of and Past Commander of the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council, a life member and Past Commander of the VFW Post #1038, and a member of the American Legion Post #77. He was a member of the Chippewa Falls Masonic Lodge #176 F. & A.M., a member of the Tripoli Shrine and its animal unit, and Past President of the Chippewa Shrine Club.

He served 45 years as a volunteer on the football field chain gang, officiating for Chippewa Falls Senior High School and McDonell High School football games.

He is survived by: his wife, Patti Bollom of Chippewa Falls; a daughter, Marie (Mike) Krager of Chippewa Falls; three sons, William "Bill" (Pam) Bollom of Chippewa Falls, Lawrence "Larry" Bollom of Holcombe, David "Chipper" (Dee) Bollom Jr. of Cadott; three sisters, Darlene (John) Reed of Nineveh, Ind., Beverly (Duane) Kilde of Menomonie, Barbara (Jerry) Wucherpfennig of Chippewa Falls; seven grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a special friend, Patricia Wenzel of Chippewa Falls.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2004, at Zion United Methodist Church in Chippewa Falls, with the Rev. Greg Schrimpf officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie, with military rites conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

The Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will meet for reviewal at 6:30 p.m. Sunday and there will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions in Dave's memory may be directed to Zion United Methodist Church building fund or to the Shriner's Hospital.
