Frank Burzynski Obituary

COLBURN -- Frank R. Burzynski, 79, resident of the Town of Colburn, Chippewa County, passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004.

Frank was born Nov. 19, 1924, in the Town of Roosevelt, north of Thorp, Clark County, the son of Walter and Hattie (Karpinski) Burzynski. He grew up in the area and later served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre. He was taken prisoner of war on Sept. 3, 1944, and was held at Stalag 12A until finally being liberated on May 3, 1945. He then returned to Stanley and married Anna Sarna on March 2, 1946, and they bought the Sarna homestead in Brownsville where they lived and farmed. During this time he also did logging and worked for Chippewa County, managing the Otter Lake Project, working with the Green Thumb and the Youth Corps, and latter because custodian of the Otter Lake Dam. During his retirement he worked at the Stanley International Log Co. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards with his friends. Frank was a lifetime member of the Stanley VFW Post 2711 and the American Legion.

He is survived by: his children, Leonard (Tamara) of Eau Claire, Raymond (Julie), James (Karri), David (Leia), and Donald (Cyndi) all of Stanley, and Julie (Tim) Allen of Eau Claire; 14 grandchildren; five brothers, Walter of Chicago, Ill., Edward (Edith) of Monongaheia, Penn., Stanley of Vega, Texas, Marion of Stanley, and Louis (Louise) of Limestone, Tenn.; three sisters, Harriet Steivang of Thorp, Estelle Kroepfl of Port Washington, and Toni (Rhichard) Van Overmeiren of Dan Diego, Calif.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his beloved wife, Anna in 2002, two brothers, Leo and Michael; and one sister, Marie Pawlak.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 13 at the St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church, Lublin with Fr. Marion Talaga officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with Stanley VFW Post 2711 performing military graveside rites.

Friends and family may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday evening, Sept. 12 at the Plombon Funeral Chapel, Stanley.

Plombon Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
