CORNELL n Gerald Wesley "Jelly" Miller 82, of Cornell, passed away Friday at the Cornell Area Care Center.
Jelly was born the son of Leroy and Freda (Blomquist) Miller June 6, 1924 in Eau Claire. He graduated from Cornell High School and joined the Navy during WWII and served in the South Pacific. After his discharge he married Verna Blanchard Aug. 17, 1946 in Boyd. Jelly was employed at St. Regis Paper Mill in Cornell and also had worked as a Cornell police officer and part time at the Post Office in Cornell until becoming a full time postal employee in Chippewa Falls for over 30 years until retiring in 1985. Jelly also was a volunteer fireman and helped establish the ambulance service in Cornell. Jelly also was a member of the Cornell American Legion and VFW.
Survivors include: his wife Verna: one son, Roger (Susan) Miller of Salem, Ala.; three daughters, Jane Miller of Cornell, Laura (Dwayne) Mosley of Hartland, Lisa (Drew) Magnuson of Hudson; nine grandchildren, Sheila (Jeff) Anderson, Nicole (Tony) Tucker, Jesse (Greg) Puckett, Amanda (Andy) Elshashi, Jared Miller, Meghan, Walter and Kaya Magnuson and Jasmine Sandly; seven great- grandchildren; two brothers Claire Miller of California, Thomas (Judy) Miller of Cornell; and one sister, Lois Michal of Chippewa Falls.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers Richard, LeRoy and Roger Miller; one sister, Beatrice Clum; and one granddaughter, Sarah Miller.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cornell with Deacon Dennis Rivers officiating. Burial will be in the Cornell Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Borton Funeral Home in Cornell, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Graveside Military services will be provided by the Cornell American Legion and VFW Posts.
