Herbert Roy Cole, 87, of Menomonie, passed away at his home on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012. A graveside memorial service and burial will be held in Murray, Ky., at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Murray Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Dunn County Humane Society, Menomonie.
Herb was born on Jan. 26, 1925, to Albert and Jessie (Childers) Cole in Portland, Ore.
He married Lois Frances Buckman on Oct. 4, 1941, and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage.
He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy. Herb worked in laundry management for hotels and hospitals and retired from St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend, Ind., in 1988. He and Lois returned to their roots in Murray, Ky., for their retirement. In 2004, Herb moved to Menomonie to be closer to family.
Survivors include one son, Steve (Vicki) Cole of Menomonie; five grandchildren, Kimberly (Rob) Lyle of DeKalb, Ill., Karen Muhs of Fountain Hills, Ariz., Kelly (Mark) Ciocca of Morton, Ill., Doug (Judy) Briney of Cassopolis, Mich., and Steve (Becky) Yeske of Inkster, Mich.; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; his beloved dog, Frances; and many "Kentucky relations" and special friends.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Thelma Burg; and brother, Floyd Culver; wife, Lois on March 22, 2000; daughter, Bonny (Cole) Yeske on Dec. 12, 2002; and granddaughter, Karmen (Briney) Montoya on Jan. 3, 2004.
Herb enjoyed camping, fishing, country music, playing cards, watching daytime TV and doting on his dog, Frances. But most of all, he will be remembered for being a thoughtful, generous and loving Grandpa (Pappy) - never missing a birthday, special event or holiday. WE LOVE YOU!
